When Lockdown Ends

When Lockdown Ends

April 02, 2020

Isolation and working from home has become the new normal. No more sport, trips to the coffee shop or strolls along the beach. What’s more, there is no solid indication of when it may end. In what may have begun as a well earned rest and chance to reset from the intensity of the outside world, each passing week seems to make the walls we are confined in feel a little smaller. I’m tired of Netflix. I’ve had enough of looking at a screen all day. Lately I’ve found myself thinking more and more about the places I can’t wait to jump in the car and head back to once this isolation period is over, and it seems I’m not alone. The FMC team has come up with a list of driving destinations they’ve all been dreaming of. Let us know what you think, and if there are any you can’t wait to hit the road and journey back to…

Wombat State Forest (Victoria)

Wombat State Forest is a gem found approximately 50kms west of Melbourne. Located in between Daylesford and Woodend, the forest is a hotspot for anyone who loves getting outdoors. An abundance of walking tracks and mountain bike trails snake up and down the mountains and along the creeks and rivers running through it. It’s also extremely popular with 4×4 enthusiasts, with a great variety of tracks for all skill levels.

Chris (Product and Customer Service) loves getting out of the house on the weekends and making the trip down with his partner and their dog. It’s not just about the destination for them, but the journey as well. The winding roads never see much traffic and the scenery is truly beautiful in any direction you look. It’s no wonder Chris is counting the days until he can return!

Apollo Bay (Victoria)

Apollo Bay is located around 2.5 hours south of Melbourne along the Great Ocean Road. The friendly little town is often sleepy in the Winter months but comes to life in the Summertime. Perched between the rolling hills of the Otway Forest and turquoise blue ocean, this is as picturesque as it gets.

Nick (Content Creator) has been making the trip down the Bay all his life, courtesy of family who resides there and also what he believes is the best crowd-free surf on the whole south coast. Nothing puts more of a smile on his face however than the drive there. Whether he takes the world-famous Ocean road or the drive inland through the rainforest, he swears he knows every single corner like the back of his hand.

Tasmania

We’re not all full of Victorian bias, and the thought of a trip to Tassie gets pretty much everyone in the office excited. The little island across Bass Strait should be on everyone’s bucket list-especially those who could really do with a breath of fresh air! There’s no shortage of adventure to be had with an endless amount of sights to see and places to go. For the petrol head who is keen enough to bring their car along with them, the roads which encompass the island are some of the best in the world.

Jarryd (Bedrock) knows this better than anyone having grown up there. While he’s spent time in almost every part of Australia it’s Tassie which will always hold a special place in his heart. The sparsely rugged nature of the land was the perfect place to inspire a love of motorbike riding, filmmaking and other passions. When isolation finally comes to an end we don’t think it will be too long before he makes the journey home.

So What About Now?

As much as we can dream about the places we’d rather be, the fact remains that this is our reality for the minute and the reason we’re all making the sacrifice is for the benefit of our health. Instead of dwelling on the negatives, why not make the best of the situation you’re in? If you’re looking for a way to mix it up this weekend set up camp in the backyard. With the Easter long weekend almost upon us, a lot of families out there would be getting ready to hit the road for a weekend away. Take the opportunity to keep it a special time and you’ll be surprised just how much fun will be had.

Stuck inside an apartment and don’t have a backyard at your disposal? No worries! Set that tent up in your living room or even create a fort out of blankets or doonas. The kids are sure to love this one, and it will surely cure any boredom they’re going through from being stuck indoors.
